Exhibition - The Desert was Red and Red the Dust was Raised

Saturday, Mar 2, 2024 from 9:00am to 4:30pm
Las Cruces Museum of Art
491 North Main Street
575-541-2137

“The Desert Was Red and Red the Dust Was Raised” features five female artists who live and work in Las Cruces and El Paso: Sharbani Das Gupta, Zoe Spiliotis, Isadora Stowe, Laura TuroĢn, and Amy Vensel. The exhibition takes abstraction as its foundation, and the literal landscape as the thing that connects all five artists — either as a reference, as language, or simply location. This innovative exhibition looks at the ways in which the desert can be used as a language, and the rebelliousness of five female artists who fight for artistic success and recognition in the beautiful and complex landscape of the desert.
