Join us at the Branigan Cultural Center for the opening of our newest exhibition, Trinity, which features artwork by Sarah Nguyen. Trinity addresses political, cultural, and scientific events by questioning our past and the choices we have made through her piece Break into Blossom. This exhibit is on view from May 5 through July 1, 2023. Opening reception will take place on May 5th from 5-7pm.

Break into Blossom reimagines history with an aged, moss covered, and undetonated accurate scale replica of the “Little Boy” bomb, asking “what if?” the atomic bomb in Hiroshima failed to detonate. The installation piece considers an alternative history whereby the failure of the Manhattan Project resulted in the atomic bomb “Little Boy” being a dud, thus causing the nuclear weapons project to be abandoned.

Sarah Nguyen’s work as a mixed media artists revolves around story telling and reexamining our own actions. Nguyen’s work has appeared in numerous national and international solo and group exhibitions, publications, and artists’ residencies. She has worked as an Art Instructor at the University of Central Missouri, a Book Designer for Pleiades Press and Magazine, and as Freelance Illustrator of book covers and children’s books. Currently, Sarah is the Art Installation Curator for the True / False Film Festival in Columbia Missouri.
